Yeast Infection Management
A skin disease due to yeast infection usually occurs on the legs, groin, scalp or nails. To overcome and treat these skin diseases, there is no other best solution other than self-management. It is very important to always keep the areas clean. The yeast infection management that can be done is based on the skin diseases, and the areas where they occur.
Foot (Tinia Pedis) or Athletes Foot
Yeast infection treatments include the following. Always keep the feet and shoes dry. Dry the feet well before wearing socks and shoes. Use foot powder or corn starch powder to dry the feet. Wash thoroughly and soak the feet in an astringent solution twice a day (ask your pharmacist). Wear socks which are made of cotton. Dry any cracks around the toes especially well. Use antifungal cream or powder and continue to use it for up to 4 weeks, even after the infection has disappeared. Do not use hydrocortisone cream because it could worsen the infection. Dry and clean all bathroom surfaces thoroughly after use to prevent infection from spreading. Wear rubber sandals in the toilet, bath and shower.
Tinea Cruris
Make sure the genital areas are clean and dry. Apply the powder to absorb moisture. Wear loose clothing made of cotton. Avoid wearing tight pants and socks.
Ringworm
Do not share a skullcap, hat, comb or brush. Do not play with the dog or cat that is suffering from ringworm (indicated by bald or hairless spots on the body). Treat with the cream / powder / antifungal shampoo.
Diaper Rash
Use fungicide creams. Make sure that baby’s bottom is dry. Use a good quality diaper and change it frequently. Expose the genital area to dry it.
Thrush in the genital area
Wear loose clothing made of cotton. Bath. Clean and dry the genital area after a swim / bath, using a shower or flowing water. Minimize sugary foods. After urinating, wipe the genital area from front to back. Sterilize /change the dressing that is infected (use bleach during the wash). Do not have sex until the thrush infection is cured. Make sure your partner also gets proper treatment for any penile yeast infection. Boost the immune system by exercising, eating a balanced diet and quit smoking, and try taking a multivitamin. Take antibiotics only when needed.
Always see a doctor if there are signs of increasing swelling, red discoloration or there are any signs of pus, or infection. Also if the use of antifungal creams or powders shows no effect after 2 weeks and you are still not recovered after 4 weeks.
